*Penny Brohn Cancer Care & Bristol Haematology and Oncology Hospital *

*Joint relaxation project for chemotherapy patients*

Many cancer patients find that treatments such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy can be unpleasant and stressful for them. This can be due to the physical side effects, and also the emotional issues which accompany acute cancer treatments. Research shows that relaxation can help cancer patients reduce their levels of stress and anxiety, and in some cases can also help control the physical side effects of acute cancer treatments, such as nausea, fatigue, and pain.

Penny Brohn Cancer Care is working in partnership with Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre (BHOC) to help support patients undergoing chemotherapy. At any one time in the Chemotherapy Day Unit there are up to 12 patients receiving chemotherapy which can last from between two to 10 hours.

To support patients undergoing chemotherapy we are working to deliver a joint relaxation project. This would involve MP3 players preloaded two guided relaxation tracks each of between 30 – 40 minutes (one male, one female), for patients to listen to while undergoing chemotherapy.

By providing preloaded MP3 Players this would provide easy access for patients to use while undergoing chemotherapy in the Day Unit.

In order to make the project a reality we want to raise as much as we can to provide:

·MP3 Players

·power cords

·At least 2000 disposable headphones (in plastic covers)

*Thank you from everyone at JACK fm*
