  • SDC is the lead authority for this ongoing situation.  Please direct media enquiries to the above number in the first instance.
  • This is an on-going situation, with changing circumstances.
  • It is a complex situation.  There are technical difficulties of working in a confined space.
  • The site is still deemed as unsafe.
  • There will not be a quick fix solution.
  • We will endeavour to keep media, residents, businesses informed as the situation develops.
  • Utilities – gas, water, sewerage, power have been diverted or isolated.
  • An operations room has been set up in the HQ of Sedgemoor District Council, where all organisations will be meet initially on a daily basis.  Communication updates will be issued on daily basis.
  • Specialist monitoring equipment has been set up to ascertain any further movement.
  • Engineers have been working on site over the weekend.
  • In the meantime, technical specialists are assessing remedial works to seal off ground and prevent further erosion.
  • Residents and business owners will be allowed to return to their homes and businesses to collect essential possessions. These visits will be escorted by SDC officers.
  • The buildings are not assessed as being safe enough to allow people to move back in. The position on this will be reassessed on a daily basis.
  • The priority at present is to stabilise and then work out a long-term solution.
