Press release from Somerset County Council, 14/08/12:

Somerset businesses can now apply to join an approved traders scheme operated by Somerset County Council.

‘Buy With Confidence’ will be managed by Trading Standards officers, and Somerset is the first place in the country where consumer organisation Which? will help identify local businesses suitable for membership.

Applicants meeting the requirements will receive a number of benefits, including use of a unique logo, information and advice from Trading Standards, and listing on the Buy With Confidence and Which? Local websites.

Members will sign up to a code of practice and agree to conduct their business in a fair, legal and honest way.

Cabinet Member David Hallsaid:“The launch of Buy With Confidence is excellent news for Somerset businesses and consumers, and I am delighted that Which? will be working with us.

“We wanted to launch Buy With Confidence in Somerset because we recognise it’s a great opportunity for good local businesses to show their commitment to outstanding customer service, and gives local people peace of mind when looking for a business they can trust.

“The Which? involvement confirms our view that launching Buy With Confidence is absolutely the right decision, and I’d encourage local businesses to apply for membership.”

Pete Tynan, Product Manager for Which? said: “This is an exciting partnership as Somerset will become the first area of the country where members of Buy With Confidence will also be able to use the Which? logo to give consumers further confidence they’re choosing a great local business.”

There are more than 50 local authorities in the UK operating the Buy With Confidence scheme, meaning that the logo members are entitled to use is recognised far and wide.
