Bandstand Marathon is back: Our Big Gig

Superact is very pleased to announce that Bandstand Marathon is back and it’s bigger, and better than ever, and even has a new name, Our Big Gig!

 The event has grown and now incorporates indoor and outdoor performance spaces (not just bandstands) which are free for members of the public to attend. Local people can choose where they want to hold their event and can pick a date and time that best suits their community as long as it happens between the 11th – 14th July.

This year we have newly appointed Regional Managers who are there to support event organisers with their community events. More information on the regions and the contact details for our Regional Managers can be found on our new website.

This annual event aims to bring communities together to celebrate their local musical talents and encourage people who are new to music making to give it a go! All events need to be at least 4 hours long, be free for members of the public to attend and should provide opportunities for people to have a go and participate in a range of music making activities.

Superact is looking for over 275 local Community Event Organisers across the UK to be part of Our Big Gig in 2013.

Successfully selected Community Event Organisers will receive:

– a grant of £400 towards their event
– marketing materials (posters, banner and a t-shirt)
– PR support
– training opportunities and
– will have their event listed and promoted on the Our Big Gig website

Any organisation can apply to host an Our Big Gig event, it can be a friends of the park group, school, voluntary group, youth organisation, faith group, local authority, Parish Council etc. In fact anyone who is part of a group organisation with its own bank account can apply. The funding available cannot be used on staff time to organise an Our Big Gig event, it is purely for event expenses such as equipment, musician’s expenses, workshop leader’s fees, licensing, venue hire costs, insurance or reimbursement of volunteer expenses.

Please note that we have currently only secured funding to deliver events in England. If you took part in 2012 in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland and are interested in doing so again this year as part of Our Big Gig, please do get in touch with us anyway. You may still be able to get involved but we will not be able to offer you any grant funding to take part if you are selected.

If you would like to apply to be part of Our Big Gig in 2013 please complete a new application formvia our website by the 12th May. The Regional Managers will be contacting everyone who ran an event last year over the next couple of weeks to discuss the plans for this year. If you have already started to make plans for this year and/or have submitted a Bandstand Marathon register of interest form, our Regional Managers will contact you to talk you through the new format this year and check that your event is still suitable to be part of Our Big Gig.

Once you have submitted an application you will be contacted by one of Superact’s Regional Managers who will discuss your application with you in more detail. All successful applicants will be notified of their selection by the 14th May.
