Blake Museum in Bridgwater has been officially ‘Accredited’ by the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA) .

The MLA’s Museum Accreditation Scheme sets nationally agreed standards for all museums in the UK. Blake Museum’s award proves that it measures up, meeting the guidelines on how it is run, how it looks after its collections and the services it provides its visitors.

In confirming that the Museum had maintained ‘Accreditation’ Samuel Rowlands,

Accreditation Manager wrote these words:
“Congratulations …I rarely read Accreditation returns which demonstrate such vibrancy within an organisation, particularly at a time following significant change … also to see the openness and transparency you have shown, notably though the scheme of document publication on your website is most interesting. Please pass on my congratulations to all the volunteers”

Alan Hurford, Town Clerk added: “This award reinforces the decision of the Town Council to take over the Museum and keep it going for the community. It is testament to the work of the Honorary Curators, the Friends of Blake Museum and all the volunteers whose commitment has ensured continuing success and increasing visitor numbers.”

Andrew Motion , Chair of MLA, said: “Being awarded Accreditation is an impressive achievement. It recognises the high standard and service that Blake Museum provides and acknowledges the hard work of the staff all of whom are volunteers”.
