Press release – Town Council consult to bring new use to Trinity Hall

Posted on 12th June, 2018 in News

Bridgwater Town Council, who manage Trinity Hall, having taken over management from Sedgemoor with a 125 year lease, are holding a consultation around its future use. Town Council spokesman for Properties, Cllr Leigh Redman, says “Bookings have dropped off and there is a need to spend money to complete a refurbishment. In recent years with more modern community rooms coming on line, including easily accessible , modern facilities such as the YMCA & Victoria Community Centre, use of halls such as Trinity has decreased.  The lease includes the requirement for continued community use and so the Town Council want to know your thoughts and plans to hold a number of consultation events.”

On Your Bike, a community charity currently based in Taunton, have secured funding to bring their project to Bridgwater and have expressed an interest in using Trinity Hall, On Your Bike is a Charitable Social Enterprise currently based at two locations in Taunton. Their key aim is to train and employ the socially underprivileged, ex-servicemen and long term unemployed, to help themselves, help us and other volunteers recycle and sell bikes. So far at their Taunton sites they have recycled or serviced over 3,000 bikes and aided over 300 individuals. Coming to Bridgwater, On Your Bike hopes to build on its reputation as a great bike shop and to continue to offer varied and interesting work placements for Bridgwater. Their vision is to support their volunteers to improve their lives and gain in employability skills.

Bridgwater Town Council would like to hold a consultation around the possibility of entering into an agreement with this community based charity, that would see their model come to our town, opening up opportunities for Bridgwater people to benefit from the service, both through learning new skills and by way of access to recycled bikes.

Town Councillors and representatives from On your Bike will be at Trinity Hall for two sessions:-

19th June 1500hrs – 1700hrs and 26th June 1700hrs – 1900hrs to hear your thoughts.

If you cant make the meetings email your thoughts, questions or comments to Cllr Leigh Redman, as chair of the Town Council property working group by email [email protected], or [email protected]l.gov.uk
