Proposed Wessex Water Sewer Works – Wills Rd, Bridgwater

Posted on 12th June, 2018 in News

Wills Rd & Regent Way Sewer Works, Bridgwater:

Apologies for the blanket email and if this doesn’t concern you but I am writing to inform you of proposed sewer works to be carried out by Wessex Water in the Wills Rd area of Bridgwater starting in September 2018. We will be writing to all local residents in the area nearer the time but wanted to give you some advance warning of these works. We have applied for road notices from Somerset County Council and these will be advertised in advance of the works.

Scheme Background:

Wessex Water have been requisitioned under Section 98 of the Water Industry Act 1991 to provide a new sewage pumping station and sewer rising main for the Bridgwater Gateway development at the former Dawes Farm. Planning permission has been granted for a mixed commercial and residential development for which Wessex Water have been requisitioned to provide a connection to the foul sewer. Attached drawing CY187-1100 shows the scheme overview.

Scope of Works:

New pumping station on developers site
New twin 250mm diameter foul rising main (Stockmoor Country Park)
New Single 250mm diameter foul rising main (Wills Rd & Regent Way)

Stockmoor Country Park:

This area is owned by Persimmon / Bloor Homes and is currently being landscaped including ponds, footpaths, cycle lanes etc.. We have been working closely with the developers to ensure that the new sewer rising main doesn’t clash with these proposed works. We have also communicated these plans to Sedgemoor District Council, Parrett & Axe Drainage Board and the EA.

We are planning to install the pipeline through this sensitive area by ‘no dig technology’ which will involve directional drilling meaning excavation is limited to just a few small reception pits with minimal impact. This work will be taking place in September to November 2018. Existing access and footpaths will not be affected by these works.

Highway Works:

The attached Wills Rd PR Map shows the extent of works required in the highway for this scheme.

Regent Way:

We have carried out trial holes & investigations in Regent Way and due to the location of other utilities we will need to install the new sewer under road closure.

Closure Dates: 17th September to 12th October 2018.

Wills Rd Traffic Lights:

This is the main section of works and we have managed to plan to undertake these under traffic lights to avoid road closures. The section of Wills Rd affected is junction of Regent Way to junction with Ashton Road. This will be undertaken in short sections with the traffic lights being reduced to minimum distances. These lights will be manned at peak times to avoid congestion.

Traffic Light Dates: 24th September 2018 to 11th January 2019.

Wills Rd Road Closure:

Although we are able to install majority of the pipeline under traffic lights there is a short section where we will need a road closure due to proposed depths and location of a gas main. For this section (between junction of Selworthy Close to junction of Evesham drive) we will remove traffic lights and carry out a road closure with provisional dates below.

Closure dates: 29th October to 09th November 2018.

Please be assured that we will endeavour to complete this work as quickly as possible and aim to minimise road closures and utilise traffic lights where possible. Where traffic lights are being used we aim to minimise the working area and complete the work in sections by reinstating the highway as we the work advances.

Proposed Site Compounds:

In order to service these works we will require two small site compounds for welfare and material storage. These sites are owned by Sedgemoor District Council and are highlighted on the attached plan as;

Section of POS / green adjacent to Ringwood Rd / Regent Way
Section of POS / Verge adjacent to Wills Rd opposite Ashton Rd
