Somerset Waterways Volunteers Forthcoming Activities

Hello Everyone,

Firstly Some Important news.

Our Coach & Boat Trip  Sunday 24th June

Volunteers Day Out to Devizes and Kintbury near Marlborough​.

Sadly it has been necessary to CANCEL this trip as we unable to sell sufficient seats.

We have been in contact with everyone who had booked and paid so we can organise the full refund of monies.

I will try to put a different package together, if possible, later in the year.

These are the details of our planned activities:

Bridgwater Work Party

Tuesday 22nd May

We meet at the IWA Cabin in Bridgwater Docks, Northgate Bridgwater TA6 3EX

10am start and we aim to finish around 1.00pm

Task: Preparing and painting or rubbish removal.

We will meet at the Docks as usual and car share to work site, if necessary, Vo​lunteers are advised to wear clothing suitable for the weather conditions and wear sturdy boots or shoes.

You may wish to bring a bottle of drinking water with you.

Please let me know if you plan to attend before 6pm Monday 21st May.

Taunton Work Party

Saturday 26th May

Volunteers meet at Bathpool Canal Car Park off Dyers Green Lane, Bathpool,TA2 8BZ

10am start and we aim to finish around 1.30pm

Task: Trimming back vegetation of creeping onto the towpath, litter picking along the towpath  in both directions, volunteers are advised to wear clothing suitable for the weather conditions and wear sturdy boots or shoes.

You may wish to bring a bottle of drinking water with you.

Bridgwater Work Party

Saturday 26th May

We meet at the IWA Cabin in Bridgwater Docks, Northgate Bridgwater TA6 3EX

10am start and we aim to finish around 1.00pm

Tasks;  Litter picking and possibly some preparation  work for and/or painting items at the Docks.

We are also planning to have a community litter pick working with the Group Rage against Rubbish Volunteers team.

As a combined water based team we will use the paint flat boat to collect the litter items from the guys who will be  using kayaks to retrieve rubbish and litter from the canal margins.

We will  also have in place some land based Volunteers on the towpath to collect and bag any items that it might be safer and easier to place on the canal towpath.

Depending on the volunteers numbers attending our work party  and for safe working, we may also carry on with rubbish removal task at the Docks or continue with painting the structures at the Docks.

You may wish to bring a bottle of drinking water with you.

Sunday 27th May

Boats Trips along the River Parret aboard the Duchess of Cocklemoor.

We meet in Langport in the free car park located in the Town Centre, TA10 9PA at 2.45pm

We will be supplying a scone,jam and clotted cream for our do-it-ourselves cream tea, and drinks free of charge or should you prefer there are some cafes or pubs nearby. Currently all seats have now been booked.

I would ask if your are able to help us by bringing some very hot water in flasks this would be greatly appreciated or a gas camping ring.

Any monies donated at this event will be for the  Langport Community Boat Funds.which is  an IWA Corporate Member.

Bridgwater Work Party

Tuesday 29nd May

We meet at the IWA Cabin in Bridgwater Docks, Northgate Bridgwater TA6 3EX

10am start and we aim to finish around 1.00pm

Task: Preparing and painting or rubbish removal.We also  will be working down the towpath removing any overgrowth of brambles and branches to keep the  urban route safer for all of the varied users.

We will meet at the Docks as usual and car share to work site, if necessary, Vo​lunteers are advised to wear clothing suitable for the weather conditions and wear sturdy boots or shoes.

You may wish to bring a bottle of drinking water with you.
