Somerset Prepared

Welcome to the summer update from the team at Somerset Prepared!

While we look forward to this time of year, it’s also important to remember that the effects of long spells of hot weather can be hazardous to health. This is especially the case with vulnerable groups, such as the very young, the elderly and the seriously ill.

If temperatures reach certain thresholds the Met Office will issue an alert to ensure the agencies responsible take extra care of those most at risk.

It’s not just up to the agencies though, we all need to be mindful of those most vulnerable in our communities. The best way to do this is by keeping an eye on those close to you who may be at risk and wherever possible, sharing tips for staying safe in the sun.

For more information visit our summer weather hazards page and if you have any questions you can always get in touch and we’d be happy to help.

Best wishes,

Somerset Local Authorities’ Civil Contingencies Unit
